ADNOC and SLB Roll Out AI Drilling Platform Across 120+ Rigs: AI Moves Past the Pilot Stage

ADNOC and SLB have deployed their AI-driven drilling platform (DrillOps, Real-Time Operations Center) across more than 120 onshore and offshore rigs in the UAE, with measured engineering-effort gains of 30 to 40%. Cardan-AI reads this as the signal of a shift from pilot to operational scale.

ADNOC and its technology partner SLB have announced the deployment of their AI-driven drilling platform, DrillOps, paired with a Real-Time Operations Center (RTOC), across more than 120 onshore and offshore rigs spanning ADNOC Drilling, ADNOC Onshore and ADNOC Offshore. The platform was developed in the UAE and is hosted on the group's sovereign cloud — a choice that speaks directly to the ongoing debate over data sovereignty in the energy sector.

The figures ADNOC has disclosed are specific and verifiable: a 30% to 40% reduction in engineering effort per rig, two to three times more rigs overseen per engineer, incident response times shortened by four to twelve hours, and up to two days of rig downtime avoided through early anomaly detection. ADNOC Upstream CEO Musabbeh Al Kaabi describes the move as "embedding AI into the heart of our drilling operations."

What sets this announcement apart from the wave of AI-O&G partnerships seen through 2026 (SLB-Qualcomm on edge AI, Chevron-Microsoft on data center power, Aker BP on computer vision) is scale: this is not a pilot on a handful of wells or a framework agreement, but a near-simultaneous rollout across almost an entire national drilling fleet, with performance indicators already measured and published rather than promised.

For an aerospace, energy or industrial board still weighing more AI pilots against a full-scale rollout, the ADNOC-SLB case offers a rare, quantified data point: the productivity gains did not show up at pilot stage — they appeared only once the platform was pushed across the whole fleet. That is exactly what today's Cardan-AI analysis explores through the economics of learning by doing.
